Volume 3 of Mobile Art starting now

Dear all,

Volume 2 of Mobile Art has been for almost a month on the Appstore and both books now almost sum up a total 14.000 downloads! I'm really happy with this result as I didn't expect this much interest.

It is therefore time to officially launch volume 3.

Some more information about this next eBook:

Susan Murtaugh (the featured artist of Volume 2, for those who haven't downloaded it yet) has kindly accepted to take part to the artwork selection process. She knows many artists from the various forums and her eyes and knowledge will be a tremendous help for raising the bar of this next eBook.

Joseandrés Guijarroponce, also known as La Legra Negra will be the featured artist with an interview and lots of new paintings.

There will be a Christmas chapter (on top of the regular selection on general mobile art) with drawings on this subject but also centered on children, you will know why some lines below. This is the first time a theme is given so the criteria of selection can vary a bit. I would like the paintings and drawings above all to convey emotions. It can be sad of funny emotions or also just simply poetic. Be creative and try to move us deep inside with your art. All artwork should be done on your iPod or iPhone of course.

As said previously, the interface will be upgraded and will allow for a better reading experience. It will also allow for a larger number of pages. This means more artwork, more reviews and more tutorials (anybody can write one, I just would like to be informed about it first, so please email me some of your thoughts/ideas before writing pages of articles).

The deadline for the submission is set to the 20th of November. This leaves a longer time than for the previous books, I hope this will give more chances for always better artworks. The release date on the Appstore will be around the 15th of December. Rules are the same as before (cf. first archive of march 2009) and the email address for submission remains the same too:

ipodartvol1@gmail.com

Last but not least, I would like this new volume to be really special.
Since the beginning of this project I have in my mind to somehow link it to a charity organization but I never found the occasion to do so. I think Christmas is the right moment to take a dive and try something out. I would like to open a discussion on the subject with whoever might have some idea or experience on the matter.
So here is the general idea:
I would like to propose to all who will download the book to donate a dollar or two to an organization which is helping children.

The ebook will remain a free download though and this is where the discussion should start, with these questions: which organization will we chose and what would be the best way to forward them the eventual donations from our generous readers?
You can leave your ideas as a comment at the bottom of this post.

I hope this will work and that together we will find great ideas. I think it would give a fantastic purpose to the hard work the published material represents.

Thank you in advance!

Thierry

More good news!

Volume 2 is now ranked in 58 countries in the top 100 and in the top 50 in 34 countries (free Photography apps)!

Today is also a milestone, this new book has surpassed in just over two weeks the total downloads of volume 1, beating by far my most optimistic expectations :)

So there will for sure be a third volume and it will be a Christmas release.
There will be the now usual chapters like regular art gallery, app reviews, tutorials and featured artist but there also will be another one focusing on the Xmas/end of the year theme (only artwork though).

There will also be an improvement of the interface to make the navigation between chapters easier. This will allow for even larger number of pages than in the current volume, if needed.
When the new interface will be ready, the two first volumes will be recompiled with it too.

I will also invite another artist for the artwork selection.

If you have ideas for reviews or articles related to mobile painting feel free to email them to me.

But more on this next ebook in a few days...

Some information about the ebook in the Appstore

Just thought I wrote a post about the progress of the ebook in the Appstore in the free Photography category.

After 13 days, it has reached the top 100 in 30 countries around the world and the top 50 in 15 of them. This is a much better result than for the first ebook as it is a lasting one. The increased quality of the artworks and the addition of tutorials and reviews is certainly playing a role in this difference.

I will give some precise countries a bit later on.

And if you can help raising that average 2,5 stars rating I would be grateful ;)

(new edit)
So here are some of the ranks by major country (changing daily so only valid today):

Italy ----------14
Hong Kong --15
Russia -------30
Spain --------33
France -------39
Turkey -------42
Japan --------47
China ---------52
Germany -----56
UK ------------68
Mexico -------68
Brazil ---------71
USA -----------72 (though some days ago it reached 59)
India ----------75

Volume 2 submitted to Apple!

The second ebook has now been submitted to Apple. It will take 10 to 15 days to know if it's approved and I have set the release date to the 28th of August to avoid some more weeks of holidays where fewer users are connected to the store.

Here is the cover:

It will have 198 pages of articles, reviews and beautiful paintings. Featured artist for this edition is our so talented Susan Murtaugh!

Don't miss it, you'll be amazed by this compilation of some of the best mobile art done these recent months all over the world.

Thank you to all who have been submitting their paintings and to all who have contributed to articles and reviews!

iPod and iPhone Art Volume 2

Hi fellow i-artists!

The first ebook on iphone and iTouch has been very well received on the Appstore (around 2500 downloads in 12 days) and still counting, like they say ;) .

Some comments posted on the Appstore about the ebook:

* What these artists are able to create on little screens is very inspiring! Thanks for giving artists a place to show their "Brushes" work!

* Recomendo este ebook para que vejam as obras de arte que podem ser criadas com as aplicações do iphone. Grande selecção! :D

* Muy muy muy bueno. Los dibujos son increibles, algunos te dejan sin palabras pero en mi opinión sería mucho mejor si tuviese un índice para poder ir a cada artista directamente. Muy bueno.

* Det er et rigtig godt app men det er ikke for alle. For tiden går jeg meget op i "mobilart". Men hvis du ikke gør kan du godt springe over. Men egentlig fedt at man kan lave sådan noget på en mobil. (can't understand this one, but it sounds like a good review...)

* Wunderschönes App. Die Bilder sind traumhaft.

* amazing pieces of artwork...but time for a MobilArt2!

*I love beauty and this art certainly qualifies. Thanks to all those who contributed.

*Amazing, I am impressed, can' t wait for volume 2

So, the time has now come for a second volume of astonishing finger and stylus paintings done on your favorite App! :)
The aim is still to surprise the iPhone and iPod Touch owners around the world with what is possible to do on these devices.
Only now the challenge will be to make an even better ebook than the first one.

-------------

Rules are mostly the same as for volume one, apart from the deadline of course, so here is a little reminder:

-send your 4 or 5 best pictures in high quality Jpeg format- original resolution (480X320) is fine.
-if you send a comic, make sure it's no more than 12 pages/screen,compressed into one rar or zip file.
-any link or info proving your picture(s) was created on Ipod-Iphone
-specify if you want your internet coordinates to be watermarked over your art. Private or other.
-submit your pictures to this same address:

ipodartvol1@gmail.com
it's more convenient to keep this address than changing it....

-deadline is midnight GMT on the 20th of July ( emails sent after this date will probably not be considered)
-spread the word around you!
;)
--------
Again one featured artist will be interviewed and one of his/her picture will be used as a front cover for the ebook.

Plus some surprises... of course!

Important notes:
There is no restriction of Iphone/Ipod Touch software used for the creation of your work, it just has to be inspiring, beautiful, exciting or thought provoking.
I would like to keep the rating +4 for this collection, so no rude or shocking pictures of any kind will be accepted.

Rights will remain full property of the authors-artists. No money will be made from this publication, it will be again a completely free downloadable application.

Lastly, if you intend to take part to this ebook please let me know about it in advance by email, eventually telling me how many paintings you will be submitting. This will be of great help for the organization of the work I'll have to do. Thanks in advance :)

If you want to be informed about this project, drop me an email (at the same address) or register to this page as a Follower (up left).

Happy painting!

Submission to Appstore done!

Hello everybody,
It took some time but it's finally done, the book has been submitted to Apple!
It will be named MobilArt1.
Unfortunately I couldn't use iPod or iPhone in the title of the application due to Apple's contract restrictions.
It can take another week before it shows up on the Appstore... I guess patience is the keyword in that case ;)

I will keep you informed so stay tuned to this page!
All the best,
Thierry

Ipod and Iphone Art Volume 1

Hi!

Care for your creations to be seen in the Appstore?

Since I've started drawing and posting some artwork  on the  Colors! and Brushes Flickr websites,  I realized that there are some really good artists out there using the Ipod and Iphone devices for occasional sketches, illustration, comics or concept art.

So here's an idea!

I would like to publish a free application for the Appstore of Apple with a selection of some of the best artworks done sofar on the Iphone or the IPod Touch.

Artworks can be full color paintings, pencil sketches, comics (short stories only- eg between 5 frames to 15 frames or Ipod-Iphone screen),  abstract art , figurative art , etc...

There is no restriction of Iphone/Ipod software used for the creation of your work, it just has to be inspiring, beautiful, exciting or thought provoking.
In short, the aim is to surprise the world with what is possible to do on this small but revolutionary device. But remember that  applications have to be approved by Apple, so no rude or shocking pictures of any kind can be accepted.
Also provide in your email any possible link or proof that your submitted work has effectively been done on the mentioned devices.

Rights will remain full property of the authors-artists. Once again, no money will be made from this publication, it will be a completely free application.
This could be a good promotion for you as your artworks will show full credits of its authors (emails and websites if desired).

If you are interested, please email your picture(s) to this address:

ipodartvol1@gmail.com

If you want to be regularly informed about this project, drop me an email too (at the same address) or register to this page as a Follower (up left).

I will be the jury for the selection because I cannot do otherwise, so you'll have to trust/accept my judgement on this (actually based on more than 24 years as a professional in the image/animation industry). Future issues (if this happens to work...) will involve some of  the best artists of this first volume in the jury.

But please, be selective on your side with what you will send and limit the number of pictures you send to 4

One featured artist will be chosen and one of his/her picture will be used as a front cover for the book.

This volume will be limited to around hundred pages, maybe more, depending on the number of megabytes it will finally do.

Deadline for submission is 25th of April. Actual publication date will depend on the release of the application by Apple, hopefully within a month after this deadline.

Spread the word around you and I hope to see your pictures in this ebook!

All the best,

Thierry Schiel

Please, check this list before you send an email for consideration:

-send your 4 best pictures in high quality Jpeg format- original resolution is fine. Emails with more than four pictures attached might not be considered.
-if you send a comic, make sure it's no more than 15 pages/screen, compressed into one rar or zip file.
-any link or info proving your picture(s) was created on Ipod-Iphone
-specify if you want your internet coordinates to be watermarked over your art
-submit your pictures to this address: ipodartvol1@gmail.com
-deadline is midnight GMT on the 25th of April (any email sent after this date will not be considered)
-spread the word or leave a comment below!
